Orthodontist Near Middletown, NY

Why Middletown Patients Choose Orange County Orthodontics For Treatment

If you live in Middletown and want an orthodontist who truly offers patient-first care, Orange County Orthodontics is 17 miles down Route 17M in Monroe. Dr. Manish Patel trained at NYU and Columbia and offers braces and multiple clear aligner systems including Invisalign. We are very proud to be a local and family-owned business and not part of a private-equity backed or multiple state operator. In our opinion, this allows for a more honest and thoughtful relationship with our patients, where we can put your care first and prioritize your health and smile over profit margin.

Ortho for Middletown kids, teens & adults

Braces are still the most reliable way to move teeth for crowding, spacing, overbites, crossbites, and underbites, and the modern version is smaller and more comfortable than the ones most parents remember. We offer metal braces and clear ceramic braces, which use tooth-colored brackets and are just as effective as metal. Dr. Patel plans every case on a 3D scan from our iTero scanner and, where the bite calls for it, a CBCT image, so there are no putty impressions and the plan accounts for what is happening below the gumline, not just what shows in a smile.

The right Age to start

We follow the American Association of Orthodontics guidelines and recommend seeing children for a first look around age 7, ideally when the first adult molars are in and we can tell whether the jaws have room for optimal growth. The majority of kids do not need any treatment at this time; we just put them on an observation schedule to ensure normal and expected growth occurs. In some cases, we recommend early treatment, usually between ages 6 and 10 for phase I treatment, which helps guide jaw growth and development. The goal of phase I treatment is to make room for the additional, incoming adult dentition, and limit more expensive and serious treatment later.

Teens are the largest group in our orthodontic office, but adults make up more than a third of our patients , and nearly all of them are treated with aligners.

Clear aligners and Invisalign

Orange County Orthodontics is an Invisalign Preferred Provider, and Invisalign is a good fit for a lot of Middletown patients. It is not the only aligner we use or recommend, however. Different aligner systems use different materials and have unique advantages over each other. We treat patients with Spark, Invisalign, uLab, and aligners designed and printed in our own office. Dr. Patel chooses the system based on your actual smile and facial harmony, rather than just relying on a single system.

Why Middletown families Love OCO

Our office was built in 2022 around the technology we actually use every day: an iTero scanner instead of impressions, CBCT imaging for cases that need it, and a 3D printer that makes aligners and retainers on site. You see one orthodontist at every visit. And when you compare treatment options, you are comparing four aligner systems and two kinds of braces, chosen by the doctor who will be adjusting them, not a single product the office has signed up to sell.

What your first visit looks like

The first visit is a consultation. Dr. Patel takes photographs and x-rays, and then you sit down with him to go over the options for your case and what each one would involve. You leave with a plan and a price, and nobody pressures you to start that day. Health history forms come to you by email before the appointment so you are not filling out a clipboard in the lobby.

How To Get To Our Office

We know a 21-minute drive is a real consideration when you are looking at two years of visits. Two things make it manageable. Aligner patients see us every eight to ten weeks rather than every four, because we can check progress from scans and photos between visits. And when something breaks or goes missing, we usually do not need you to drive down twice: our in-house printer makes a replacement aligner or retainer while you wait, or we mail it.

Route 17M starts in Middletown. It is North Street, Wickham Avenue, West Main, and Dolson Avenue before it crosses the Wallkill River into Goshen, follows the Quickway through Chester, and arrives at our front door at 475 NY-17M in Monroe. Most Middletown patients make the drive in about 21 minutes, which is less time than many of them spend getting across town on a school morning. Families from Scotchtown, New Hampton, Wallkill, Circleville, Pine Bush, Goshen, and Chester are on the same corridor and come to us the same way.

Paying for treatment

Most people ask about cost before anything else, so here is how it works. The price of braces or aligners depends on how much the teeth need to move and how long that will take, so you get an exact figure at the first visit rather than a guess over the phone. We offer no-interest payment plans with a low down payment and monthly amounts most families can live with, and we take credit cards and bank drafts. Bring your insurance card to the first visit and we will check your orthodontic benefit before you decide anything.

Questions Middletown patients ask us

Our office is about 17 miles from Middletown and normally about a 20 minute drive. The office is located at 475 NY-17M in Monroe, and Route 17M runs directly from downtown Middletown through Goshen and Chester to our parking lot. From the I-84 side of Middletown, take 17 east to the 17M exit at Goshen and stay on 17M.

The overall cost is determined by the complexity of the case and whether you need limited or comprehensive treatment.  In general, braces can cost anywhere between $1000 and $7000 with payment plans that bring the cost down to monthly payments as low as $125/month.  We offer no-interest payment plans with a low down payment on most treatments, and we will check your orthodontic insurance to maximize your benefit so you have all of the information to you before you make a decision.

Ideally, around age 7. That is normally when the first permanent molars and incisors are in, and an orthodontist can tell whether there is a natural growth progression. Most children at age 7 do not need treatment, and we simply recheck them every year or so to monitor growth. For children who do need phase I treatment, usually between ages 7 and 10, we can help growth and airway development for a simpler and less expensive phase II treatment normally addressed around age 13.

Yes. Ceramic brackets are the same shape and work the same way; they are just tooth-colored. They cost a little more and can stain if you drink a lot of coffee or tea without brushing, which is why we tend to use them on the upper front teeth where they show and metal where they do not.

For most mild to moderate cases, aligners and braces get to the same result in about the same time, and the choice comes down to what is best for the patient. Aligners are nearly invisible and come out for meals and brushing, but they only work if they are in around 22 hours a day. Braces are less dependent on the individual and can be more dependable. Some bite problems and some tooth rotations are still faster in braces, and Dr. Patel will give his best recommendation after your initial consult.

They are all clear aligner systems, and they differ in the plastic they are made from, how the aligner is trimmed at the gumline, and how the lab plans the tooth movements. Spark's material is marketed as clearer and more stain resistant; uLab gives the orthodontist more direct control over the plan; Invisalign has the longest track record and the SmartTrack material. We offer all three, plus aligners we design and print in our office, so the recommendation is based on your teeth rather than on a single brand.

No, but we are happy to work with your dentist. You can call us directly, and many Middletown patients do to schedule. We send a report to your dentist after the first visit so everyone is working from the same plan, and we ask that you keep up your regular cleanings while you are in treatment.

Most comprehensive cases, braces or aligners, take 12 to 24 months. Minor alignment cases can finish in six to nine months. An early-treatment phase for a child usually runs nine to twelve months, followed by a break while the rest of the adult teeth come in. Dr. Patel gives you an estimate at the first visit, and the single biggest thing that keeps a case on schedule is showing up to appointments and wearing elastics or aligners as prescribed.

Dr. Patel examines your face, jaw, and bite, we take photographs and x-rays, and we sit down together to go over the treatment options, talk through any questions and what each costs. It normally takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Forms are emailed to you ahead of time.

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons adults come to us. Relapse after braces is usually mild to moderate crowding of the lower front teeth and is well suited to aligners. Read more on our Invisalign page.  Wearing a retainer afterwards is an important part of treatment.

People drive to us for a variety of reasons, but normally it is because they have built trust with Dr. Patel. It could also because of the range of options, since we offer metal and clear braces plus four aligner systems.  Another reason is that the scanner, CBCT, and 3D printer are in the building, which means fewer visits, faster replacements, and treatment planned on a full 3D picture of your teeth and jaws.

Call us at (845) 774-2724. A broken bracket is not an emergency, but it should be fixed within a week or two so treatment does not stall. A lost or cracked aligner is simpler than it used to be: because we print in the office, we can usually make a replacement the same or next day, or have you move to the next tray early if you are close to switching anyway.
